The Battle for the Bible in the LCMS

Dr. Paul Zimmerman discusses the issues that lead to the Seminex incident where professors and students for the St. Louis seminary held a mock funeral, declared themselves a seminary in exile, and walked out. The entire episode is detailed in Dr. Zimmerman’s book, “A Seminary in Crisis: The Inside Story of the Preus Fact Finding Committee.”

Be sure to listen to Robin’s testimony at about the 42 minute mark. She discusses from experience that if you throw out 1 verse of the Bible you’ll eventually throw out Christ.

The Doctrine of Vocation – Part 2

Dr. Steven Hein discusses the doctrine of vocation. What is God’s will for your life? You’ve read all the books and gone to all the seminars and you still don’t know what you should do with your life. Should you become a pastor or a small-group leader? And what do you do with that pesky kid who needs her diaper changed while you’re trying to do what God wants you to do?

Personal Note: I appreciated Pastor Oberdiek’s testimony because they closely mirror my own experiences. I drifted away from Lutheranism for different reasons, but my contacts with other denominations gave me the same sense of something missing which only were satisfied by returning the church of my youth.

Review of a Sermon on Justification by Fr. Patrick Henry Reardon

Pastor Wilken reviews a sermon by Fr. Patrick Henry Reardon, an Eastern Orthodox Priest. This is no Joel Osteen sermon, but it’s not on par with Rev. Weedon, Rev. Cwirla, et al. The errors are more subtle, but Pastor Wilken does a great job of highlighting them.

Guest: Fr. Patrick Henry Reardon
